Who We Are

Founded in 2014, RiverWest Contractors is a fine-scale general contractor and design-build firm based in Richmond, VA. It is owned and operated by VCU graduate Rob Stephens, a seasoned and experienced contractor well-versed in Richmond’s classic and up-scale neighborhoods.

Our portfolio runs the gamut from kitchen and bathroom renovations in the West End, to full-scale home additions and new home construction in the Museum District. We also take great pride in our commercial projects, especially when they help area small-business owners expand their dreams and exceed their goals.

We work mostly by referral, with the bulk coming from repeat customers. We are confident we keep those connections because we personally invest in each client, their families and their projects. Regardless of the project or its size, we are committed to providing outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship.

More About Rob

Rob Stephens has been in the Richmond construction industry for nearly 20-years. He honed his skills working for large builders like Ryan Homes and Gumenick Properties - but he credits a small mom-and-pop company with giving him his start as a Carpenter’s Helper. His first day on the job was September 11th. A memorable moment for the Nation and a turning point for building design and construction.

Rob’s career also includes years spent in commercial and adaptive reuse; embracing and saving existing architecture and repurposing it for new businesses and multi-family homes. The Hopper Lofts in Manchester, two Franklin Street apartment buildings in Shockoe Bottom, as well as the former Julian’s on W. Broad are examples of his past work.

His collective experience and his eye for design is reflected in everything Rob does; from the boots he wears to the car he drives. In fact, you may see him on a weekend rolling up to a job site in his convertible Toyota 4Runner, kids in tow, ready to lend a hand to his crew.
